Black & Decker CTO6301 Digital Advantage Stainless-Steel 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven

After my horrible experiences with Black & Decker 4-Slice TRO700S Toast-R-oven, stainless steel, I swore that I would not buy another Black & Decker toaster oven. But when I checked out several toaster ovens at Bed Bath & Beyond, low and behold it was precisely this model. Compared to other models around, had this one the best combination of features and size for the price. Krups convection felt cheaply made, eligible for the prize. The second oven I thought a kitchen oven Aid convection, was very well made and looked good, except that it has a convection feature, and features were badly exposed. I wanted to check out the Sanyo SK-VF7S digital convection oven, stainless steel, which has been getting good reviews, but unfortunately, this store does not carry it. So I decided to take a chance on the "fool me thrice, shame on me." At least I could take it back to the local store if it did not work.

Black & Decker oven is much better made than TRO700S. It is also slightly larger and has more solid sense of control. There are also digital, so you do not have an annoying ticking sound while cooking. It also seems more robust than the Sanyo, which can deliver more value for money.

The Good:. Excellent design, versatile disk systems, non-stick interior, decent little guards over the heating elements, large capacity (it will also accommodate a 12 "pizza), wide viewing area with cooking, there are a lot of nice features, including" bagel "- . lower heats half peak temperature, so it does not crisp the bottom of the bagel too much (NICE) The exterior does not get hot, like most toaster ovens, and even worse with a brushed steel finish, but the right side (where the convection fan is located) tend not to get scalding hot working chef position well, even if they do not have jobs convection feature, and even toasting function takes a long time to work .. it's brown bread evenly.

It is not so good: The digital controls are confusing and take some time to figure out. The instructions are OK, not great - but you definitely need to read them. The screen does not have a watch that you would normally find in digital devices, but this is OK - when you realize it. The unit will beep at you when you select a cooking function, and it is quite high. The convection feature works only in the BAKE mode, do not cook - I found this strange and disappointing. When you use it, there's no countdown indication of roasting progress (as opposed to the timed cooking / baking), and you just have to trust that it will end at the right time. Finally, this product is designed more like an oven than a toaster - a simple toast takes about 50% longer to toast than in a conventional toaster. But the solution is to move the shelf to the top position and then just turn the bowl when it is browned on one side. Only a small disadvantage. In addition, there is no backlight for the LCD, so if you're cooking at night in low light is a bit hard to see screen details.

Overall I give this unit a thumbs up ... for now. I hope that because I did not find any initial defects, it should work well in the future. It's not a perfect oven, but it seems no company out there who cares about that perfect convection / toaster oven. Sometimes I think I should go into the product design, as I see so many mistakes that can easily be avoided. Anyway, you will not go wrong getting this oven. :-)

NOTE: I highly recommend to see a toaster in person before buying it. This way you can get a feel for how it looks, feels and acts. It is practical experience you just can not get online. You can also save more to buy it myself (I paid $ 67 with tax at BB & B with a 20% discount coupon). But if you can not get to a store that has the equipment you're interested in, then you have to trust what you see on the web. I hope my review helps you in your decision.
